Turning a Dream Trip Into Reality

Turning a Dream Trip Into Reality

“Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it.

Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Short on money? Wondering how you’re ever going to be able to take your “dream trip?” One way to get closer to your goal is to create a “trip fund.”

A trip fund is a tool to help you turn a dream into a reality. You don’t have to give up on your dreams simply because of a financial challenge you may be having – you can start a trip fund with a penny. Try this when you’ve decided that nothing will stop you from reaching your dream destination, no matter how far it is from where you’re currently sitting, or how long it will take you to get there. Start today. You’ll find your spirits lifted because you’ve started the process and have a goal to work towards.

If you want to turn up the fun factor by a notch, this is a great activity to do with your friends – not to mention a fantastic opportunity to catch up with each other. We all need a good “gab fest” every once in awhile. You could even turn it into a “potluck” lunch and ask everyone to bring over a dish of something – or can you say wine and cheese party? Fun!

Try to set aside a couple of hours to complete your project.

Set your supplies on the kitchen table/dining room table – any flat surface where you’ll be comfortable. (If you’re getting together with your friends, ask them to bring magazines and other supplies with them.)

Here’s what you’ll need:

o A jar or other container

o Scotch (adhesive) tape, a glue stick, and/or liquid glue

o Scissors

o A selection of old magazines

(Need some magazines? What about going to local travel agencies, beauty or nail salons, or doctors’ or dentists’ offices to see if they have any magazines they no longer need, or will trade for?)

o One dollar

o Decorations – If you’re really into decorating, you could also decorate your “trip jar” with ribbon, stickers, sparkles or labels. The choice is yours! Make it personal and unique. Have fun with it!

o Refreshments and snacks – treat yourself to a nice hot cup of tea or coffee, a refreshment of some sort – and some of your favorite snacks.

o Put on some zippy music. Get nice and comfortable and you’re good to go!

Look through your selection of magazines, cut out all the pictures you find of your dream destination, and set them in a pile on the table.

After you’ve gone through your last magazine, sort through the pictures you’ve cut out and pick the ones that you love the most – the ones that really catch your eye.

Now, decorate your container with all those stunning pictures you’ve found of your destination.

Next, find a home for your trip jar. Set it on your dresser or kitchen table – somewhere you will see it every day.

Put your dollar in the jar to get you started. Keep adding whatever spare cash you have to your jar – $100, a penny – anything. Every week, add something to it.

If you’d like to get there even faster, throw in all the change from your pocket at the end of every day. You’ll be surprised how fast your trip fund will grow, once you’ve got it going.

At the end of the month, take all that money and put it into a separate account at your bank, until you’re ready to go on your trip. Keep track of how much you’ve saved as you go along. Make sure you don’t use it for anything but your dream trip – that’s essential!

You’ll want to make sure your trip jar is never empty – always leave at least one dollar in it, and continue to add to it. Repeat the process until you reach your goal. Easy, right?

What’s crucial is that you start and then keep the ball rolling!

After you’ve got your trip fund going, try and check in with your friends along the way to cheer and support each other as you all make your way through this empowering process and reach your goals.

Are you traveling like a nomad but want to take your trip jar with you? When I travel, I have limited luggage space, so here’s what I do.

I find some gift bags and decorate them with my goal destination. Then, when I move on, all I have to do is fold my bag up and take it with me. It’s light and takes up hardly any space.

Tips to Better Vacation Experiences

Tips to Better Vacation Experiences

If you’ve always wanted to take a fun, safe, adventurous and relatively inexpensive, but luxury packed vacation here are some tips on how you can make it happen

Before you get to the fun stuff, answer this; Are you the type that doesn’t care about the kind of hotel you stay in? If you don’t then proceed without caution!

But if love your creature comforts, magnificent views from huge balconies maybe a Jacuzzi on the balcony to watch the night go by with a Margarita in hand and a great location then you must read on!!

Expensive, Sound extravagant, must have a high end Budget? NOT AT you know where to book and who to book with. Two of my best vacation experiences in Mexico were done for less than $1700 with a car rental, tickets to major parks, Fantastic Spa visits and yes, this was for two.

What’s the Secret?

Choose the right Travel agency. Travelocity comes to mind. You get what you pay for Period. The Hotels and rooms actually look like the pictures you viewed! Take 3-4 hours looking carefully at vacation packages, with car rentals (if you are the driving adventurer) Read all the details on the rooms offered and then look at what you can upgrade to for next to nothing!

Find out as much as you can about the local attractions. If you have included a car, don’t book the attraction online, do it when you get there for a lot less. (I recommend this way for single couples) If you’re taking the family, especially young children, book it online and relax aboard Top of the line tour buses as you venture out.

If you love to try new foods, you will save a bundle and experience some of the best food you will ever have by eating “Off the Street” as I like to call it.  Don’t worry; finding an Ice cold beverage of your choice is easier than blinking! Just stick to cooked food and getting sick need not be a worry

Safe to go out and about day and night? Catching a Cab or the bus in Cancun or Puerto Vallarta for example is safer than in any US city I know. They pride themselves on tourist safety and cops are never too far away. Midnight strolls are a must, sleeping on the beach even better.

Why go to Florida and deal with the same old stuff you can get at home on crowded not so pretty beaches when less than an hour away you could be on beaches of clear white sand, waters so blue it’s almost unbelievable and views that simply take your breath away.

7 Tips For Great Travels With a Partner

7 Tips For Great Travels With a Partner

Planning a trip is almost as fun as the actual travel. All the excitement, the brochures, the talking late into the night… I love travel planning! Make sure that your journey has the same excitement from beginning to end, and that you come home still speaking to your travel companion!

Here are my top 7 tips on enjoying your travels with your spouse, family or friends – whoever your travel partner may be:

Understand different travel styles

Different people like to travel in different ways, even if these people have been married for many years. One person may like a planned-ahead itinerary while the other may just like to wing it. Know these differences ahead of time so that you can plan with both of you in mind. And if you’ll be traveling on a long trip with someone you’ve never traveled with before, a test overnight together may be a good idea.

Plan an Agenda

Make a list of what each of you would like to do or see while on your trip. Then look at the days and fill in the time with items from each of your lists. Leave open time for opportunities that come up that may be more fun or interesting than what you had planned for.

Budget for the Trip

Outline what the trip will cost (airfare, hotel, transportation, food, tips, events, and of course shopping!) and determine who will be paying what. This eliminates a lot of discussion at dinner tables on who will pick up the tab. When traveling with others outside of your immediate family, talk ahead of time about paying for such things as alcoholic beverages or more expensive events, as everyone may not want to partake and have the same budget. Nothing can ruin a trip faster than money disagreements so plan in out ahead of time.

Be Flexible

Be willing to compromise and be flexible during your trip. Do something your travel mate wants to do, then plan an event you want to do. Travel with an open mind to look for new adventures that you couldn’t imagine planning for.

Have Some ‘Me’ Time

Traveling together doesn’t mean spending every moment together. Make time for some quiet reading, journaling, spa or other ‘me’ time and offer this same enjoyment to your travel companions.

For my husband and myself, my ‘me’ time is sleep time, his is photography time. He wakes up early to catch a beautiful sunrise while I enjoy my time under the covers getting more sleep. It works perfectly for both of us.

Laugh and Enjoy Your Travels

It’s easy to get stressed with the unfamiliarity of your locale, language struggles and money issues. Focus on the enjoyment and fun of your trip, rather than let these disagreements put a dampen on it. Go into each day with the challenge to find new fun things to do. At the end of the day, talk about the enjoyment you had and you’ll have even more fun the next day.

Bring Back Great Memories

Whether you enjoy picking up souvenirs, postcards, journaling or taking your own photos, it’s great to reminisce about a wonderful trip when you see the items that you brought home.

I collect magnets for our refrigerator and Christmas ornaments and my husband updates our screensaver with a few photos of every trip. We can sit in his office for hours (with a bottle of wine, of course!) watching these photos scroll by and they evoke very special feelings about each fabulous trip. Memories are wonderful.

I hope these travel tips help you create fantastic, memorable journeys with even stronger relationships!…
