Alabama is a Great Place to Hunt

Posted on

Hunting can make you hungry. Yes, much of the time involves one sitting very still for hours as a target comes into view. However, the anxiety and excitement of the hunt combined with colder temperatures in the early morning hours can burn a lot of energy off. The result — the sandwich, trail mix, or beef jerky you packed may not be enough to hold you through, let alone keep you awake, That’s why you should make sure that you stock up on what the hunting lodge offers in its meal packages.

Of course, you should make sure the hunting lodge in Alabama that you select has a food service available. In some cases, they may not have a central kitchen where food is prepared for guests. Instead, they may have cabins or rooms with full kitchens that allow you to make your own meals. If this is the case, make sure you stock the cabinets and refrigerator with protein-rich meals and snacks to keep you going throughout the day.

If a central kitchen is available, check to see how food is served. For example, Dream Lake Lodge serves their food Country Style and offers its guests three meals per the request of the individual guests. Other lodges may serve buffet style or individually depending on the time of day or the number of guests. Whatever way it’s served, take advantage of its offerings instead of going without.

While the idea of loading up on breaks and other carbs seems like a good idea to keep you warm in the cold morning hours, what it may do instead is make you sluggish or sleepy, and this doesn’t work when you need to stay alert for wildlife. Stick with protein-rich meals which feature a mix of complex carbohydrates, unsaturated fats, and numerous fruits and vegetables. It may not sound like the perfect dinner for a hunter, but it can certainly help you be more alert in the field.

The same thing can be said for dinner. While a large plate of spaghetti and a side of garlic bread seems tempting, that much food can make for an uncomfortable sleep and, therefore, a tough time to get up. Keep it as light as possible the evening before the hunt so you can get up filled with energy and excitement.…

Learning to “Get Around” in New York City

Posted on

New York City

Given the enormous size of “The Big Apple” and the tens of millions of tourists who crowd its streets annually, learning to get around efficiently in New York City is virtually as important to planning your upcoming NYC trip as deciding on precisely where to go and what to do.

Driving in by car (or driving around in a rental car) is virtually the worst option for most people. The traffic is overwhelming to newcomers, and the city seems to have developed its own set of “driving courtesy” rules that the uninitiated are sure to violate.

As to getting into the city, JFK Airport is the most popular airport, while LaGuardia is the closest one to Manhattan. Newark Airport is the cheapest and least hectic way to fly in, however, it’s over in New Jersey.

But as to getting around inside the city itself, here are six great options (you may want to use all of them at one point or another on your trip):

1. Taking the Tour Bus

For anyone who wishes to get a comprehensive overview of what NYC has to offer, especially if you have only one or two days to do it, New York City tours by double decker bus are a prime option. This lets you get around the city without having to fight the traffic or risk mis-navigating and getting lost. Plus, you can hop on and hop off as you please to create your own unique route, if you get an all-day pass.

2. Traveling by Foot

At rush hour, it’s faster to move by foot on the sidewalks of Manhattan than to drive by car down the streets. And given that Manhattan has an easy, squarish grid, one can navigate a few blocks in each direction from his or her hotel with relative ease.

You’ll need to observe NYC sidewalk etiquette (never block anyone’s path around you), and you may not want to venture out late at night (though New York is a relatively safe city, even after dark, these days); but there are likely a number of attractions within walking distance of your hotel.

3. Biking New York

Another way to get around is to rent a bike (there are bike rental shops dotting the whole metropolis). Biking along the Hudson or Harbor shores is very scenic, as is traversing Brooklyn Bridge on bike or coasting through Central Park. Try biking the High Line park, a 1.5 mile long green belt on an old rail line spur.

4. When to Use a Taxi

There are over 13,000 taxis in New York City, and you’ll probably use them at least a few times during your trip. First, from airport to hotel is a usual taxi-handled trip, often costing around $50. Second, if you need to get from hotel to Times Square to start your bus tour or to Battery Park to sail off on a Liberty Tour, taxis are likely your means of transport.

Finally, anytime you want to go to single destination too far to walk but not all the way across town, a taxi can be ideal.

5. When to Use the Subway

A one-time subway fare is currently $2.50, very cheap. And you can get a MetroCard at a reasonable price from an ATM-like machine located in any given subway station.

The subway runs 24/7 and has been a New York staple for over a century. At least one subway ride is needed just for the experience. You might want to avoid the rush-hour subway crowds from 8am to 9:30am and from 5pm to 6:30pm (on weekdays.) But when you want to cross large sections of the city quickly for a there-and-back trip, take the subway.

6. Getting Around on New York Waters

Finally, you can also get a great view of the city skyline, reach islands like Liberty Island and Ellis Island out in the harbor, and stop off along coastally-located tourist sites, via water transport. Look for water taxis, ferries, and even yachts and sailboats for a more leisurely, recreational experience.…

How to choose the best bed and breakfast for your holiday

Posted on

When you travel do you want to stay in comfortable and cozy bed & breakfasts where you feel at home but are not sure about the property to choose from? Here are some tips for choosing a good B & B without replying to your choice.

Bed & breakfasts are private homes, villas or apartments, where the owners provide the bedrooms with private bathrooms and offer breakfast. The presence of the hosts makes them family structures where guests are welcomed with affection and find themselves in a less formal and hospitable environment. The benefits of staying in a bed and breakfast are not only about economic saving but also relational: guests have the opportunity to get to know the culture of the place, to taste local dishes and to get acquainted with the locals. If you decide to transform your stay into a certain place in a unique experience where you enjoy all the comforts of home, you better follow these three tips.

Evaluate bed and breakfast based on sites and reviews

The rule number to choose a quality bed and breakfast is to prefer those located in areas close to the places you intend to visit and well served by public transport. To find the one that best suits your needs is to rely on the internet. Through specialized sites you can make a selection of those in the city and evaluate them based on the images and any existing reviews. Depending on the photos of the rooms and the structure, and perhaps more information you can give us an idea and choose the B & B that seems more hospitable.

Call the owners for more information
Once you find the ideal bed and breakfast, you can call the owners and ask for more information, often by way of responding you can see if this is a dependable and helpful person and that what is described in the site is true. To make sure that the time you spend in the structure is pleasant, opt for those where the owners reside there so they can provide you with the utmost comfort and everything you might need.

Choose a bed and breakfast with a few rooms and in uncomplicated places
If you want to be quiet and take the best out of your holiday, avoid bed and breakfasts in very busy areas and prefer those with a few rooms. The presence of many people can create confusion and a constant void that could disturb rest. In addition, services may also be affected if managers have to meet many people’s requests at the same time.

Thanks to the choice of a bed and breakfast you will have plenty of activities to choose from to make the most of your holiday. In some cases it is possible to walk in woods nearby, with bicycles to rent directly in the structure or even on horseback, ideal for those who love riding and want to practice this sport on vacation. Another very interesting aspect of the latest bed and breakfasts is the possibility of staying at facilities with SPAs and well-equipped wellness areas.
